Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop a family of Christians dedicated to expanding our faith through worship, education, prayer, evangelism, stewardship and fellowship; by serving our members, our community, our nation and our world by following the example of Jesus Christ, who reaches out to all humanity with love.

Our History

The United Presbyterian Church of North Bend is the 3rd oldest congregation in  Nebraska.  Started as a mission station in 1860, it was organized July 19, 1861, with 13 members under the leadership of Missionary Thomas McCartney.  The first house of worship was built in 1869 at Main and 8th Streets.  A large structure was built at the corner of 9th and Chestnut in 1888.  To accommodate the growing congregation, this building was enlarged in 1908 and again 20 years later.  The present building erected in 1966-67 draws its beauty from both the stained glass of the past and the hope for the future.

Plymouth Presbyterian Church, begun in the 1880’s, served an area six miles northwest of town for a generation or so.  The Presbyterian Church at Webster served the area eleven miles north of town.  After those congregations were closed, many of their faithful members became part of the North Bend congregation.

The people over the years have changed.  Denominational names have changed as the original United Presbyterian denomination of North America merged with the United Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., in 1958.  Then in 1983, the churches of the north and south merged to form our current denomination, The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  But with all those people and denominational changes, the church family has remained loyal to God and to God’s service.
